About Adriaan
"My name is Adriaan Hup and I’ve just turned 40. I’ve been married for 14 years to the love of my life, but I’ll tell you more about that later. We have a beautiful 7-year-old son together! I live in Arnhem, so I commute from Arnhem to Nederhemert every day. I like to be outdoors, go mountain biking, cross through the woods on my motorbike, and take walks. I love being adventurous and traveling is also something I really enjoy. I have been with Calvi for 12 years now, and I’ve had the pleasure to work in different positions: I was a Support Engineer and Product Owner before I became a Consultant. Even in my job, I like being adventurous!"
How did you end up at Calvi?
"I believe the path that I chose was a rather extraordinary one, you could compare my ’path to Calvi’ to a maze. I took many different roads but it truly is as they say: all roads lead to Rome, and Calvi is my Rome. Before I drove through the gates of the Calvi castle, I had never really known what I wanted to do workwise. I’m good at studying but I never really wanted to put in the effort. After High School, I tried different studies, but it just wasn’t my thing. I started working at a regional taxi company, transporting the elderly and disabled. I very much enjoyed doing this, because I worked with people and I’m a real ‘people person’. After a while, I decided to start working as a helpdesk employee and I had a lot of fun there as well. During my time at the helpdesk, I managed to save some money to fulfill a dream I had for years: to go to Canada for at least a year."
"And I can hear you think; what has all this got to do with how I ended up at Calvi? Believe me when I say I’ll come to that very soon. A few weeks before I packed my bags and left to discover Canada, I met the love of my life. As I had already arranged everything for my journey abroad, I decided to go to Canada after all. During my time in Canada, we stayed in touch; we called and wrote each other letters. She also visited me in Canada and when she left, I immediately felt homesick and decided to go home."
"When I came back, I got a call from my former employer who offered me a Junior Support Employee position. During my time there I met a “soon to be” Calvi Hero, Paul van Dun. We connected over our mutual love for music, and he inspired me to listen to different genres. Eventually, Paul left to work at Calvi and a little while later I got a call that they were looking for people at Calvi, and the rest is history."
Which positions have you had at Calvi?
"I started out as a Support Engineer. This job came with many different tasks because we were just a small organization back then, meaning we all had to pitch in."
"Our fast-paced industry asks for continuous adaption of our software, meaning that quality assurance has become more important than ever before. As a result of this, I became the first member of the Quality Assurance team. Two years after this, I was ready for the next step and became a Product Owner. As we were - and still are - a rapidly expanding organization, we needed more people who could ensure that our vision would resound in everything our skilled developers build. I was responsible for our overseas team and did this for about 5 years, but now it’s time for my biggest adventure yet!"
"Recently I was asked if I was ready for a new adventure: to assist our colleague Walter in the expansion of our Calvi Americas empire. The answer to this question was a no-brainer and I said yes immediately. This adventure comes with a new role, and as of March I’ve taken on the role of Consultant."
"I’m already looking forward to living in Canada, it feels like a dream come true. Canada is such an open country! I see it as a great experience and a new adventure which I’m going to experience together with my beautiful family. I love living in The Netherlands, but who’s going to say no to such an opportunity to put Calvi on the map on the other side of the world?! It feels like a great honor, which I’m very grateful for."
What are Calvi's biggest challenges for the upcoming years?
"Our scalability is going to be very essential! We want to conquer the world and I have no doubt in my mind that we can. But to achieve this, our dependence on other teams should decrease and we need to have fully cross-functional teams. I certainly believe that all challenges are 100% manageable for us and I feel that settling in Toronto was definitely the best choice for us."
Why should CSPs choose Calvi?
"Our software contributes to faster payments, more upsell opportunities, better customer relationships, and excellent customer experience. We are experts in bill communication and are very progressive in our software development. I call our software a ‘state-of-the-art experience’. When I talk to our customers, I notice that they are really enthusiastic about everything we bring to the table."
What’s your personal motto?
“Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional.”
"What I’m trying to say is that it doesn’t have to be boring to grow older. I believe that you should always do what you love and are passionate about. Life shouldn’t always be taken too seriously!"
Calvi in three words:
“Driven, fun, always being the best”
"Everyone at Calvi works hard and I believe that this is a great quality that allows us to grow and thrive. But most importantly, I’ve never had a dull moment at this company."
