Calvi Heroes: Jeffrey Hofwijks

15 June 2020 | Ruby van Belleghem

About Jeffrey

“My name is Jeffrey and I work as Junior Quality Assurance (QA) Specialist in the QA team. I live in Helmond together with my girlfriend and two cats, Bailey and Zelda."

“Besides working, I love spending time in the kitchen or eating at good restaurants. Surinam food is definitely my favorite. Also, I love to travel. I love to experience new things and discover new cultures. Traveling is one of the few things that costs money but simultaneously makes you richer. Over the last few years, I have seen some wonderful places around the globe, such as Greece, Taiwan, and Bali. Next on our bucket list is Sri Lanka!”

What do you do at Calvi?

“As a QA engineer, my main task is testing our new software and making sure that everything is 100% ready to go live. I usually work on different projects, which makes my work challenging and diverse. What I like most about my job is the scavenger hunt to find bugs or problems in our testing phase. After I find things that need some work, the Development team fixes them, and then I’ll do a final check.”

How did you end up at Calvi?

“In April 2016 I obtained a degree in ICT and Business. I decided to pursue this degree, because I have always been interested in how organizations use IT and data to improve their processes. After graduating, I started looking for a job online and came across Calvi. My first interview took place at our head office. Arriving at such a beautiful castle was very impressive and something I will never forget.”

“The first few weeks were mainly about discovering how Calvi works. I started out as a member of the Support team and everyone was super helpful and eager to help me get started. After a while, I moved to the QA team, but I still work with the Support team a lot. The biggest difference between Support and QA, is that within Support, you work with existing customers most of the time, and within QA, I focus more on projects for new customers. I appreciate the time I spend with my team and love working together on projects. I have been with Calvi for 4 years now and during this period, I have been able to develop myself and expand my knowledge on multiple levels.”

What has been your biggest achievement within Calvi?

“Probably, my biggest achievement has been that I was able to transfer the knowledge I obtained over the years to new Support employees. In my opinion learning from your colleagues is very important, because your colleagues are your biggest asset. In my current role, I would like to develop myself and gain more experience in the field. I learn best by doing things, so I believe that I will have a lot more knowledge to share in a few years.”

Where do you see Calvi in 5 years?

“Some time ago, we expanded to Canada. In 5 years, I believe that Calvi will have expanded to other countries as well. Our headquarters will always stay in The Netherlands I think, as it is part of our character. Hopefully, when Calvi touches down in a few new countries, I will get the opportunity to work on projects at these new offices as well.”

Calvi in 3 words:

“Ambitious, Involved and Pleasant”

“Ambitious, because Calvi never stops moving. We are continuously looking for new ways to grow and further develop both ourselves and our solution. Involved, because everyone always knows what is happening. A great example of this is when I moved last year. The day we moved, we received a beautiful bouquet of flowers. During the COVID-19 crisis, we keep receiving small gifts and support to help us get through these crazy times. And lastly, I chose pleasant because the atmosphere is amazing. The company lunches that are organized once a month are always great fun and I always look forward to company outings.”

What is your personal motto?

“Actions speak louder than words”

“I am not a talker and not constantly chatting with everyone around me. I prove my worth through my actions. I deliver quality work and support Calvi in reaching our common goals.”

Moonshot Catalyst: a giant leap in billing support

What do customers do when they don’t understand their bill or when they are billed far more
than they’d expected? They’re going to call their operator and ask for help.

Billing issues are one of the biggest causes of customer inquiries and dealing with these
inquiries takes a lot of resources and costs a lot of money. In fact, as Telecom Argentina’s Mariela
Fiorenzo explains, making just one customer support call can render a customer unprofitable for the month (and maybe even the next one!).
