About Joyce:
“Hi all, my name is Joyce Huijers and I am a Key Account Manager at Calvi. I grew up in the Dutch province of Zeeland, but moved to Breda when I started studying International Business and Management Studies. During my studies I moved around a lot, and right now I live in Bergen op Zoom.”
“I’ve always been interested in seeing more of the world. During my studies I grabbed every chance I got to travel the world and spent two semesters in Mexico and Sweden. Alongside my ambition to travel the world, I’ve always had a passion for gymnastics and used to do this professionally. Working unconditionally hard to reach your goals in sports teaches you a lot of discipline. As well as being active sports-wise, I also value having an active social life. I like being with my friends and going out to have a drink or two.”
How did you end up at Calvi?
“I studied International Business Management Studies (IBMS). During my graduation period, I had to find a company to write my thesis at. There was a career event at my University, and I had my eye on Calvi. Unfortunately, on the day of the event I had the flu and was not able to attend but I did end up sending them a motivation letter. A short while later, Maarten called me and invited me to a job interview. I still had a fever but was determined to go. I had a lot of fun during my interview and eventually started at Calvi as an intern. As soon as I graduated from IBMS, I got a chance to stick around, and I was the first woman in a male-dominated Sales team. Originally, I focused on Marketing, but after a while I decided to move to the Sales team and pursue a Master’s in Strategic Management. I’m proud that I was able to graduate, because to be honest it was sometimes hard to manage it all.“
What do you like most about your role as Key Account Manager?
“What I like most is working with both colleagues and customers, and simultaneously acting as the bridge between these two groups. We help customers with making strategic choices concerning their bill communication strategies. I work hard to build a relationship with our customers, and it is always satisfying to see the results we achieve together.”
And what do you like the most about Calvi?
“Everyone who works here is driven by passion. Our CEO Leo has a great vision and knows how to inspire everyone, he helps us define collective goals and together we work hard to achieve them as a company. The company is full of innovative people that reach for the stars, and that’s what I like most about working at Calvi.“
What was your first impression of your colleagues at Calvi?
“When I started at Calvi I was really young, which I still am, but my first introduction to Calvi was four crazy salesmen packed in one room. When I entered that same room, I immediately felt that I would fit in. Everyone at Calvi definitely welcomed me with open arms!”
What was your biggest challenge at Calvi?
“That would probably be when I was studying for my Master’s and working at the same time. I was always multitasking during that time. Even though Calvi gave me all the space and time I needed, it still felt a bit unnatural to combine going to classes and supporting my customers. At the beginning, it was hard to keep my focus, but after a while, I managed to keep the two things separate in my mind. During this time, I had to work hard and keep a clear mind but mostly I had to push through and I’m so glad I made it.”
What is your most memorable memory of your time at Calvi?
“If I really had to choose one specific memory, I think the day Walter left for Toronto (CA) would be the most memorable moment. For me personally, this moment really felt like a great milestone for our company. Even though we already had several international customers, the move to Canada really felt like we had made it to the major leagues.”
