Calvi Heroes: Morten Rasmussen

12 July 2018 | Jana van Dam

About Morten:

“I’m from Denmark originally and emigrated to the Netherlands 3,5 years ago. I have a wife and 4 kids, which means that our house is always full of life. I went to university in Denmark and obtained a degree in Information and Communication Technologies. After getting my degree, I immediately moved to the Netherlands because my wife (then girlfriend) lived there. After two years of working with a Telco as a software developer, my wife and I decided to move back to Denmark, because she got offered a position at Carlsberg in Copenhagen. We lived in Denmark for 6 years and moved back to the Netherlands when our eldest was old enough to attend school. I applied for a job with Calvi and got a reply from them 24 hours later. That’s how I started working with Calvi and have been doing so with pleasure for a while now."

What do you do at Calvi?

“I started as a developer, developing software from scratch, which I still enjoy doing. I enjoy developing software so much that I cannot simply stop doing it. After six months they asked me if I would be willing to become a Scrum Master. I had some prior experience in this field and was more than willing to accept this challenge. The Scrum Master oversees the process and simultaneously provides guidance and advice. Part of the guidance and advice I provide is how employees should behave in a professional environment. I’m a lot like a coach or mentor for the team. What I like about this is the combination of two professional aspects: developing software is challenging and fun most days and working with people and bringing them together is a completely different side of the job, I enjoy the combination. I try to give people the opportunity to take chances, and the responsibility when they want to pursue them.”

What was the most exciting project you worked on at Calvi?

“My greatest and fondest memories lie with the aspects of the software that I personally built. There are several things that I am still extremely proud of, such as the Task Queue Engine.

“I wrote the code for this piece of software and built it from scratch, and I still enjoy working with it, as I can add things whenever I want, and it works flawlessly.”

How is the Database team essential for Calvi's success?

“This is a pretty straightforward answer: the Database team builds all technical solutions at Calvi, they build the core software. The portal is the front-end part of our solution, but all aspects of the software behind it are the responsibility of the Database team. They ensure that all data is delivered and processed correctly. Additionally, if anyone in the company has a technical inquiry, they ask this team.”

Where will Calvi be in 5 years?

“I think our customer base will have grown, and we will have customers in North-America in 5 years. Calvi is a pioneer in e-invoicing, as we have integrated PEPPOL in our software and are constantly developing our software further. Calvi is ready to go global.”

“As for the organization: I believe Calvi will have matured and grown (more employees). I cannot say if we will still be situated in our castle in Nederhemert, but until then I will continue to enjoy my morning drive to this beautiful location with its lush surroundings.”

"I am convinced that this location positively influences my way of working.”

How would you describe Calvi in 3 words?

Embracing, opportunities & enjoyable work.

What’s your personal motto?

 “Be biased for change.”

Moonshot Catalyst: a giant leap in billing support
