About Sander
“My name is Sander and I’m one of Calvi's DevOps engineers. I grew up in a family of six in Den Bosch, but I was born in and adopted from the world’s largest football country; Brazil. I guess because I’m from Brazil, my passion for football was inevitable. But even though it’s definitely one of my favorite hobbies, I also like computing in my spare time. With computing I don’t necessarily mean playing games, I mostly research topics I find interesting and love discovering new technologies.”
“5,5 years ago, my wife and I bought a house in Rosmalen. Our family expanded 1,5 years ago, and I’m now a proud dad of a little boy. His birth was a very special moment for me because this was the first time someone in my family actually looked like me. Being a dad is the greatest thing!”
How did you end up at Calvi?
“After high school, I studied System Administration. After obtaining my degree, I decided that I wanted to start working and further educate myself by gaining work experience. My very first job was as a Support employee at an IT company. A while later I made the decision to look for a different job and experience life as a System Administrator and Application Tester. However, I figured out it wasn’t the right place for me and returned to the IT company I previously worked for to do a traineeship and stayed there for another 5,5 years.”
“Since I’ve always wanted to work for a company where I had the possibility to do a lot of diverse activities, I figured that my job at this IT company wasn’t going to last forever. One of my acquaintances told me about an international software company in Nederhemert and so I decided to call the recruitment company. A short while later I had my job interview with Michael and Geert, and this interview got me hyped about working at Calvi. During my first meeting, I really got the vibe that Calvi offers every employee a chance to develop themselves and that’s something I value very much.”
What was your first impression of Calvi and its colleagues?
“Organized chaos. I know that might come across as somewhat negative, but that’s not what I meant. So, let me explain myself. Due to Calvi's rapid growth and global expansion, everyone’s workload has been heavier. By adding new people to the team, they are able to regain the balance. The same goes for the DevOps team, and I think it’s great that I was added to the team, as this gives us more time to take our work to the next level. Overall, I think that Calvi is a great organization where we all have a say in where we want to go with our solution.”
“My first impression of my colleagues was very positive. I’ve had a great experience so far at Calvi and still enjoy my job very much. Everyone at Calvi has their own specialty and it’s great to see how we all fit and work together.”
What do you like the most about your job at Calvi?
“Of course, drinking coffee with my colleagues is hugely enjoyable. All kidding aside, trying new things is what I like most about my job, even though it can make my life a little bit more complicated at times because there are so many things I like doing. I love exploring, researching, and creating something new. You can really dive into one particular aspect of a little piece of software. I could write a really long list of all the aspects I like about my job, but above all, it has to do with creating new things.”
Where do you see potential for your department in the future?
“Currently, we are looking for ways to containerize our software. This means that our deployments can be done a lot faster. And if any errors occur during a deployment, it will be easier to solve them for our customers and we will have the possibility to easily retrieve their old environment. Containerization is a great next step for my team and for Calvi. I hope that we can achieve this in the foreseeable future, as we are already working hard to realize this. I also think that we have a very complete team with different kinds of people. Some of my colleagues focus a lot on software, whereas I think about our infrastructure. That’s why I truly believe that our team is built to achieve great things.”
What will Calvi achieve in 5 years?
“A lot, definitely! I believe that the telecom industry will not be the only industry we’re active in. We have always focused on the telecom industry because they were sending out the most complex bills. However, there are more companies in other industries that send out complex bills to their customers. Besides that, I certainly believe that we will have become first-class specialists and leading experts in the field of E-invoicing."
"Also as our office in Canada has been up and running for a while now, I believe it’s time to continue our global expansion. I believe that our organization is now ready to make a breakthrough in global development and growth. After we finish the containerization part, it will be less complex to onboard and deploy new customers. Right now, it still takes a bit more effort because there are some things we have to do manually, but that will soon be a thing of the past!”
Calvi in three words:
“Comfortable, Transparent and Capable”
“We have a very comfortable work-atmosphere, everyone is very outgoing, and we rely on each other for support and guidance. Furthermore, our organization is very transparent, to our customers as well as to our colleagues. We share a great deal of knowledge within our company and are all eager to learn about new technologies and opportunities in our industry.”
