About Yoram

“My name is Yoram Timmer and I am a Junior Product Manager at Calvi. Originally, I’m from the beautiful city of Woudrichem, but I just bought a house in Tilburg with my girlfriend.  During my Master’s, I was looking for a company to write my thesis for. As faith would have it, I came into contact with one of my co-students who was working at Calvi. She motivated me to get in touch with Leo (our CEO) and Leo inspired me to write my thesis on the application and development of growth models for service-based companies. People that know Leo will surely recognize how motivating and inspiring he is, and it took me all of two seconds to decide that I wanted to work here. It’s very exciting that I am able to learn more and more every day and even get the opportunity to pursue a second master.”

“Besides work, a big passion of mine is soccer. Especially Ajax can get me on the edge of my seat. No, let me rephrase that, on the edge of my couch, because I don’t visit the stadium nearly enough. In addition, I love to travel. I don’t really have a favorite destination, but if I have to choose, I would say the world. I want to see everything there is to see and explore new places and cultures every chance I get. My last destination was New York City, as a birthday present for my girlfriend. Every birthday we try to top the last trip with an even better trip. So, what will be our next destination? Probably the moon.”

What do you do at Calvi?

“Officially, I am a Junior Product Manager, but my day consists of so much more. First of all, within Product Management, I am co-responsible for finding new features and developments that are related to our product and the market. But that’s not all! I conduct a lot of research in which I dive deeper into the more complex questions surrounding our product and Calvi itself. And lastly, but without a doubt my favorite part of my job, I work with data. To execute this part of my job to the best of my abilities, I am currently pursuing a second Master’s degree in Data Science, in which I learn all there is to know about data. But also, how to find the data I need and process it in a way that benefits both us and our customers. It is very important to know how our online portal is being used by end-users. The part of my job that revolves around data provides me with a lot of room to explore and dream. It is probably the freedom, flexibility, and variety in tasks that energizes and motivates me the most.”

What is your dream within Calvi?

“I truly hope and dream that Calvi will be able to build models and algorithms which can teach our portal to predict user behavior to the full extent. This would provide Calvi with the opportunity to offer an even better-personalized experience based on the user’s behavior. My Master’s Degree in Data Science will surely help me achieve this dream. During my graduation internship, I discovered that there’s a lot of growth potential in this area. After that, I started researching the data more thoroughly and it challenged me to show others the value of this data. Also, I believe it to be an amazing opportunity to strengthen our position in the international market.”

What was your first impression of your colleagues?

“When I first arrived at the company, I noticed that everyone is full of energy, creativity, ideas and vision. This definitely includes Leo; it is amazing and very inspiring that he can tell you what Calvi will look like in 5 years. It is even more inspiring how everyone works so hard to reach this common goal and that also energizes me to come up with even better ideas to improve our product. There are a lot of skilled people at Calvi, that stimulate me and from whom I can learn a lot. And not to forget, Calvi has two beautiful locations which represent the work atmosphere and quality of work we deliver. The first time I walked into both locations, the only thing I could say was ‘wow’”

What is your personal motto?

People that know me a little better know that it took me three weeks to choose the right graduation quote, so I needed to think about this one for a little while. But one motto that I always believe in and use is:

‘Nothing comes your way naturally; you always have to put some effort into making sure that the wind pushes you in the right direction.’

I believe you must fight for what you want and believe in, because nothing will come your way if you don’t put in the effort. My colleagues will be able to second this; if I want something, I will keep going until it becomes a reality.”

Where do you see Calvi in 5 years?

“In 5 years, I see Calvi with many new international customers, a few on every continent with many more potential customers that understand the value of our product. And when a new international office in Asia or Central America is opened, I’ll definitely be one of the first to sign up!

In addition to this, I hope that Calvi is still seen as an innovative company. This is something that is very important to me. I believe it is key to steer clear from too much routine and always look for new and other solutions, new ways to improve and service our customers. In my opinion, challenging people can bring great creativity and quality”

Calvi in three words:

‘Innovative, Ambitious & Dutch with a ‘’Southern’ flair.

“The power of Calvi is that we are truly Dutch. We dream big, but we always stay down to earth. Dreaming big is also why I believe Calvi is ambitious; we are ready to conquer the world and are not afraid to try new things. That is why I believe innovative is also a fitting word to describe Calvi. Our strive to be innovative pushes us to stay ahead of the game.”

Moonshot Catalyst: a giant leap in billing support

What do customers do when they don’t understand their bill or when they are billed far more
